Headteacher's End of Term Letter to Parents/Carers
06 September 2012
Dear Parent / Carer
As we approach the end of another busy year I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the support you have given both to your child and to the school.
I would like to ask parents and carers to help us make the new school year start well in September. You can do this by ensuring your child is dressed in full and appropriate school uniform. Footwear must be black shoes or trainers that can be polished (no white or colours on footwear is permitted and no boots). We do not allow canvas shoes as these are a health and safety risk, especially in science laboratories and workshops. Skirts must not be too short and leggings are not permitted as a substitute for trousers or skirts. Light make up may be worn but girls who arrive overly made up will be required to remove it. Our students wear their uniform with pride and are dressed smartly overall and with your continued support this will carry on into next year.
Please also ensure your child has a large school bag. In September we will be providing students in years 7 – 10 with an A4 lever arch file containing all of their workbooks. Their bag will need to be large enough to hold this file along with their PE kit and other equipment for school. They will be expected to take this file home daily and so a backpack type bag may be most suitable. Y11 students will still need a suitable bag for their school work. Handbags, ‘manbags’ and make up bags are not appropriate.
A number of students cycle to school and we encourage this. However, some cycles are not fitted with brakes. Please ensure your child’s cycle is in a roadworthy condition as I will not be able to allow non-roadworthy cycles to be kept on school property. This will be rigorously enforced from September.
Parents and carers will know that there has been a change to the timings of the school day. From September, lunch will be from 12.35 – 1.05pm and the school day will end at 3.05pm (currently the day ends at 3.20pm with lunchtime ending at 1.20pm). If any student needs to remain at school at the end of the day the LRC will be open for private study. All lunch passes will be suspended from September due to the shorter lunch break. If you have an important reason for your child to return home at lunchtime, and you feel that this can be done in the time available, please write to me at the school outlining the reasons for your request. Until permission has been given, students will not be allowed to leave the site at lunchtime. Finally, I would like to remind parents and carers that this term ends on Friday 20th July at 12.40pm. School reopens to students on Tuesday 4th September. Students are expected to be in school by 11.30am, with our new Year 7 students starting at 8.50am.
I hope you have a pleasant, and dry, summer.
Yours sincerely N R Smallman Headteacher
